Etsy Shop Introduction || Trees 4 the Wood

Imagine living on a flower farm in Southern Tasmania. Sounds pretty ideal and it's easy to see how this idyllic setting has inspired artist Grace Gladdish and her shop trees 4 the wood.  When she's not tending to Swallows Nest her flower farm or her 5 children, she somehow finds spare time to create beautiful linocut prints.  Her prints are inspired by local flora and fauna that surround her in Australia.

In addition, to prints she also offers painted pendants on wood from her farm, laser cut brooches with vintage fashion images, and paper goods that include her linocut designs. My favorite items in her shop are the linocuts of flowers featuring Australian natives. Can you imagine all these beautiful flowers growing outside your home?

Etsy Shop Introduction || Let's Backtrack

gathered skirt with pockets

A picture is worth a thousand words or so the saying goes. That's the first thing that draws you into Hannah's shop, Let's Backtrack, her amazing photographs. Each one gives you insight into her love for times past, especially the 1920's-40's.

From her rural New York home, she lovingly sews all her designs on a Husqvarna sewing machine and keeps her patterns in a vintage suitcase.  Not only does she make vintage inspired clothing, you will also see her wearing them as well. While quite aware of today's pop culture and the latest trends, she would much rather crank up her Edison phonograph or indulge in a 1930's classic movie.

Through Let's Backtrack, Hannah has created a delightful vintage world, every piece made in the present yet celebrating the best of the past.

I would like to introduce you to Hana. She has a modern + colorful shop, A Quiet Curiosity, full of polymer clay jewelry in fun geometric designs. She started her shop after making some jewelry to give as gifts to her bridesmaids and that creative process led to what you see today.  Right now her shop is full of bold color mixed with gold and silver accents. In addition to clay you may see leather or embroidery thread added to her pieces. Each piece of clay is formed, baked, sanded and buffed by Hana.

An Introduction | Etsy Shop Winsome & Green

If we were to come over and forage through your medicine cabinet, what sort of beauty care items would we find?  We're not talking about quantity here, so don't worry if you like to hoard different moisturizers - from almost empty to half full.  What we're interested in here is the quality.  Your skin is your body's largest organ, which means that whatever you slather on your skin get absorbed by your body.  Don't you want to make sure you're feeding yourself an all natural skin care diet?  If you can't pronounce 3/4 of the ingredients on the label, chances are you don't want to sit down + essentially 'eat' a side serving of it by putting it on your skin.  Just ask Christa of Etsy shop Winsome & Green!  Christa understands the importance of not just treating the skin with all natural products, but also of living in co-creation with nature.  She uses eco-friendly and organic ingredients and never uses synthetic colors or fragrances.  Instead, she relies on nature to color her balms or to scent her products.  Inspired by nature with ingredients you can actually pronounce!  Good for the planet + good for your skin - so, go on...  Indulge yourself!

An Introduction | Etsy Shop Semi Sweet Studios

Seeing the world through the eyes of a camera lens is a really wonderful experience.  With the coming of digital cameras, it is certain that photography has become much more accessible to people.  It's so easy to pick up a camera + take a photo -click, click.  But being a photographer entails a lot more than just 'pointing + shooting'.  Beyond understanding the technical end of using a digital camera, one has to understand the more subtle nuances of capturing a moment.  You're studying your subject matter, looking at the light, examining textures, checking the entire frame before you release the shutter.  It's like having a conversation with your environment + then communicating that in an image.  Kim of Etsy shop SemiSweet Studios shares her own unique conversation with country landscapes, seascapes, & landscapes.  Her soft palette is soothing + invites you in to experience the world in the way she sees it.  With 221 items to browse, including iPhone cases + jewelry, Kim makes it easy to bring home a little piece of a beautiful world.

An Introduction | Etsy Shop L and M Studio

Not to bring back nightmares of the SATs, but do you know where the word 'porcelain' is derived from?  It comes from old Italian porcellana - which means 'cowrie shell' as porcelain resembles the translucent surface of this shell.  Neato!  The beautiful whiteness of this ceramic material is hard to pass by; it quietly invites you closer to hold + admire.  Meg & Lucie of Etsy shop L and M Studio harness this natural quality of porcelain in their beautiful functional art pieces for the home.  Combining the skills of Meg as a functional potter + Lucie as a sculptor, they "opened L & M Studio in September 2011 to start a collaborative line of porcelain slip cast objects, focusing on containers and houses for living things, designed with the specific needs of the inhabitants in mind."  Any of Meg & Lucie's items with their organic shapes would be a simple joy to live with!  How can you resist?

An Introduction | Etsy Shop vonBingen

There are so many different choices when it comes to fashion + it all boils down to how you choose to express yourself.  Sure, we all have days when it's all about the bedhead + PJ's until noon - but we're talking about those days when you have to wash up + look proper.  Would you say that your style is conservative, classic, casual, modern, vintage, eclectic or a creative layering of it all!  Caroline & Marjoca of Etsy shop Von Bingen  are 2 independent fashion designers out of Amsterdam, Holland.  Their tag line "costumes for life" sums up their philosophy that fashion is a creative tool for expressing oneself.  They are inspired by "the old women of Staphorst (little Dutch village), who keep their, sometimes more then 200 years old, 'kraplappen' in shape by sewing bits and pieces together. We also like the Japanese culture. We share the perfectionism and their love for detail."  Get inspired + express yourself!

An Introduction | Etsy Shop Studio HR

When you hear the word concrete, your first impression might be a city job site where the men wear yellow hardhats, cranes are moving material, jackhammers are pounding away + concrete is being mixed in a big drum.  But move over concrete structures + foundations - you no longer have to stare at your foundation to enjoy the beauty of concrete in the home.  This commonly used construction material has different formulas to create different finishes + is actually very beautiful.  Holly of Etsy shop StudioHR has harnessed this stone-like quality of cement in her sculptural home decor items.  Using a formulation that results in a smooth finish, Holly then seals her concrete sculptures + finalizes the work with a round of beeswax for added protection.  Holly transforms this sometimes rough material into functional pieces of art that you can enjoy everyday!

An Introduction: Etsy Shop The Design Pallet

Wooden pallets - you've seen them before, right?  If you look at the bottom of a stack of compost at your local garden center you'll notice a wooden frame that's used pretty universally as a means for storing + moving items.  For many of us, the function of a wooden pallet ends there.  But for Bruce, the woodworker + designer behind Etsy shop The Design Pallet, it was the seed that started his business.  A humble wooden pallet found a new life through being repurposed into a potting bench + it gave Bruce the idea for his sustainable line of custom furniture.  With a focus on local + salvaged materials, Bruce continues this process of transforming lumber into beautifully crafted pieces of home decor + furniture.  "Some of our favorite projects have been built with lumber that would have otherwise been burned, chipped, or bound for a landfill. We give that wood a second life as a table, desk, bench or headboard. All our Home Decor items are made from the small cut offs from previous projects."  Modern + thoughtfully designed with the natural beauty of the wood in mind, we're sure you'll love bringing home any of Bruce's creations!

An Introduction: Etsy Shop Blisscraft and Brazen

Look around you and count the different ways in which you live with wood in your home.  Wood flooring, trim, kitchen cabinets, dining room tables, serving utensils, chairs, bench, and so on.  We've become so accustomed to wood products in the home that it's easy to forget where this wood comes from.  You probably don't look at your entertainment unit + think of the trees swaying in the wind in the forest from which the wood was harvested.  Which is normal because wood has become such an integral part of our lives, but when you start to think about the origin of each board, you realize there is a larger story behind all your everyday wooden products.  Where did the wood come from and what process did it go through to become that one product that you now use in your home?  Interesting, isn't it?  That's why we love all the nature inspired and wooden products of Rachel + Aaron's Etsy shop Blisscraft and Brazen!  They use salvaged and eco-friendly materials in all their work thus providing us with an intimate link to not only the makers, but the source of the wood.  Rachel + Aaron are passionate about living in harmony with nature + in a way that leaves a small ecological footprint.  You'll feel this richness in their work + smile each time you use one of their handcrafted items in your home.  Now the tough part - deciding which one to buy!
